Another Opening, Another Show

Kiss Me Kate

It’s been three years since I’ve purchased the DVD… but today was probably one of the few times I’ve enjoyed watching this film. It has mostly sat on my shelf… sent to the back by exciting new releases and non MGM movies. But buying the soundtrack made me want to watch it again.

I am a big fan of Ann Miller, which is probably why I bought it in the first place - it wasn’t that long after I had bought On the Town. And it’s definitely her best role at MGM. Even though Bianca wasn’t written with her in mind… turning the role into a tap dancer has made it her own. And I’ve always adored Howard Keel… Kathryn Grayson is growing on me and the thugs are good fun. ;)
Ironically… I’m also thankful that this movie made Bob Fosse realise he had a talent for choreography that far outweighed his on-screen talents. I just don’t think he had the charisma beyond featured dancing roles.

The next step for me is to learn a bit more about the 1948 production and get the soundtrack. :)
But that’s enough prattling on. Here are some links about the movie and the play itself:
