1-click ordering

I got the amazon.com reminder in my inbox this morning that the 3x glamour collections (Marlene Dietrich, Mae West & Carole Lombard) will be released on April 4. Apparently because I purchased the Cary Grant Signature Collection in late 2004 I would like the Marlene Dietrich one.

Wrong of course. I wanted the Carole Lombard one so I’ve ordered it. And using one-click made me feel so naughty… almost like not shopping at all. Click the button and instantly it will charge my VISA card on the release date and ship it to my address. Then in approximately 2 weeks it’ll turn up in my mailbox.

Hooray for me. That’s another chunk of the 750 Paramount films (owned by Universal) that I want to see which will be in my hot little hand.
I’ve always been a little curious about Carole Lombard. I’ve read about her in a book or two (mostly when reading about Clark Gable) and I own one measly film of hers on DVD (To Be or Not to Be) which is very good… but it’s not enough. And this is five films she made between 1931 and 1937. There’s even a musical in there! Two themes - comedy & blackmail. I love blackmail.
I think that viewing these films gives insight to Hollywood in the thirties. She was a star of this time, and not an MGM one (although she snared one). She was zany on and off screen and definitely left this earth far too soon.
It’s also nice that Universal is releasing films in sets. Admittedly it’s probably going to be 2 double sided discs with no special features, but it’s worth it. If it was an Warner Home Video release a lack of special features would irk me - but that’s because their boxed set s are a lot more expensive.

So that’ll be here in mid to late April. But the Busby Berkeley set is coming first to keep me entertained till then. Isn’t that exciting? :)
