A domain name change (not mine)
I got an email via the Fred Astaire mailing list saying that Robyn Astaire (widow of Fred) has claimed the domain name FredAstaire.net after taking legal action. I’m not surprised, but it does seem unfair. All she gets though is a ten dollar domain name and fans yet another reason to immensely dislike her.
So the address has changed to AlsoDances.net. This is a setback for PJ but Robyn will never be able to stop fans from maintaining fansites about Fred. Even the arbritrator told her that she has no right to shut down a fan website.

Even students who are studying to be actors, writers and artists these days are told to reserve the right to their domain name BEFORE THEY GET FAMOUS. Mrs. Astaire, like many celebrities both living and dead, has sued for the rights to her husband’s name. Pierce Brosnan recently did the same thing. You can see his at http://piercebrosnan.com
Imagine if someone took your name, your likeness and started posting about you without your consent. Of course you’d hate it, and any other star or their heirs do as well.
I hope she’ll start an official website under his name.
I think the new site will do fine.
