Finished with it!
I finished off the Busby Berkeley discs with 42nd Street and the bonus disc. Always a favourite. And I’ve still got “You’re getting to be a habit with me” alternating with “Shuffle off to Buffalo” in my head.
From here, I’ve got five Columbia discs to watch, and Full House & Bewitched (both Season 3) on the way for a little TV fun… and five Carole Lombard movies due here soon too. I’ll be busy for quite some time with those!
But first… a few final thoughts.
The bonus disc was 21 musical numbers from his films - mostly from the films that were included in the set and a couple from other films like Wonder Bar, Fashions of 1934, Gold Diggers of 1937…. I did get a little bored as I had seen most of it already. So that’s all I’m going to say about it.
Overall I’ve been really impressed with the presentation of the discs. Warner Home Entertainment has put a lot of thought into it, especially the special features. All of the documentaries were fun to watch, and I enjoyed most of the shorts and cartoons.
I don’t know if there will be a Volume 2. I get the impression that the five movies picked were Busby’s best work at Warner Brothers and the leftover movies… well… weren’t. I don’t think it’s on their agenda anyway - maybe when all the good stuff has been released.
