Growing Pains

Growing Pains
Sitcoms from the 70’s and 80’s are another favourite of mine. I like watching episodes on DVD if I want to watch something… but not have to sit through a much longer movie. I do tend to buy favourites from my childhood/teen years.
I pre-ordered season one of Growing Pains from amazon.com and I have to say… I enjoyed it far more than I expected to. It was a series that I remember being on as a kid… but not any episodes from it. Kirk Cameron wasn’t all that cool by the time I remembered seeing it either…. but that it was long after the series had started.

College Swing

Posted by kathryn - January 31st, 2006

It’s hard to imagine George Burns as anything but an old man with big round glasses and a cigar. So it was quite amusing to watch College Swing where of course he isn’t.

This was also my first time watching a 1930’s Paramount musical. I’m amazed that in the last three years of musical obsession I hadn’t watched any until now! And there were quite a few familiar faces. Edward Everett Horton (who of course was one of the mainstays of the Fred and Ginger musicals), Betty Grable (before she hit it big, but definitely a bigger role than Follow the Fleet) and oh yeah. A guy named Bob Hope.

It was fun to watch, but less polished and I didn’t find it quite as funny as I expected. I really enjoyed several of the musical numbers - Betty Grable & Jackie Coogan’s dance number and the finale. But I didn’t always get the humour… it was probably more understandable at the time it was made.

Tomorrow it’s The Big Broadcast of 1938.

I must also say I’m pretty impressed with deepdiscountdvd.com which is somewhere I’ve never shopped before. They ship to NZ in about the same time that amazon.com takes. I guess it’s price vs price. :)
