As for EPIC musicals, the same team that did Les Mis did Martin Guerre, which was awful!
Ragtime, is somewhat Epic.
Oliver! is similar to Les Mis, prostitutes, big numbers, period piece.
AND HAIR which I missed earlier is quite Epic. A must see!

Musicals can range from the two wonderful ones you mentioned to Disney shows (Beauty and the Beast), Titanic, Rent, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Producers…I could go on and on.
