I have probably the most creative mind in the world, but I want to write a musicals. Yet I feel that it has to be based on something. Does it have to be based on something in order to have songs?
Think about it:
Spring Awakening was based on an old play
Rent was based on la Boheme.
Cats was based on a t.s eliot book
The only musicals I know of that are SUPPOSEDLY not based on something except a certain era/scene/fad was Bells are Ringing and Grease.
DIEGO & DEREK!!! It’s our glorious return to FSU!!! So here’s a nice video of a bunch of random musicals put together. Sorry, but there’s not a whole lot of RENT in it, but instead there’s a TON of other hysterical moments. So we’re back at Florida State, and I’m in the same dorm building (Cawthon!), but not the same room. I’ve got a single now, so no more Elias randomly popping out everywhere =( We’ve got Chicago, Avenue Q, Beauty and the Beast, A Chorus Line, Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Dreamgirls, RENT, Grease, High School Musical (Ugh, I know), The Last Five Years, Lion King, and WICKED!!! cell block tango if you were gay belle home opening i hope i get it good morning baltimore you can’t stop the beat overture supercalifragilous move and i am telling you i’m not going listen beyonce jennifer hudson goodbye love what you own la vie boheme you’re the one that i want we go together getcha head in the game breaking free see i’m smiling circle of life popular defying gravity
What I mean is can I perform for public performance of stage play musicals like: Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Les Miserables, The Flower Drum Song, Grease, Dream Girls, Chicago, Moulin Rouge, and The Sound of Music? Sort of A Great White Way Compilation Performance?
Now Starring Ray Quinn from ITV’s The X-Factor. Grease is a musical that encompasses the way rock and roll changed American sexuality and culture from the conformity and social/sexual oppression of the 1950s and toward the individualism and sexual freedom of the 1960s. The musical, set in 1959 in fictional Rydell High in Chicago, follows ten working-class kids as they navigate the complexities of sex, cars (and sex in cars), and drive-ins (and sex at drive-ins)! Grease features all the unforgettable hit songs from the movie including You’re The One That I Want, Grease Is The Word, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You and Greased Lightnin’. Superbreak Staff Verdict: “A great night out –I could see why this show is one of the most popular musicals of all time. The cast were brilliant.”
My oldest 2 (6 and 3) like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hotel for Dogs, Baby’s Day Out, Enchanted, Mama Mia (lol). They just discovered Eloise at the Plaza ~on disney today. They arent really into cartoon movies, what are some regular movies geared toward kids, or musicals (They also like HSM, Grease, Sound of Music etc.)
I’m a male actor in musical theatre and I’m starting to have some problems finding good musicals to pull audition material from. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
Just a note, please don’t post anything from the following musicals:
Rent
Les Miserables
Phantom of the Opera
Wicked
The Sound of Music
Any Disney Movies (The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Pocahontas, etc.)
Grease
Footloose
Etc.
These musicals are great and I love their songs, but they are used way too much for audition purposes by other people and it’s not a good thing for an actor/actress to use a song from them since the auditors are probably sick and tired of hearing them by now.
